This is the first of a new series, Inspiration Boards. In these sets I like to start out with one inspiration piece, and the rest goes from there. In this set, it all started with this beautiful rug, which I sort of thought had the best of both worlds: Masculine colors + feminine shapes. Next came the Lennox Sofa from Crate & Barrel, coupled with some coordinating throw pillows from Room and Board, Crate & Barrel and Urban Outfitters. Then I saw this floral-esque wall mirror which I thought mimicked the floral patterns in the rug nicely. Butch the Bulldog is definately a masculine touch that adds some nice whimsy and texture, and the decorative balls from IKEA add texture as well. The coffee table is the perfect color for this set and features a matching end table, and not to mention, is a great deal. And finally, this double gourd table lamp. I chose flooring in a deep chocolate wood which compliments the entire set perfectly. (Links and pricing below)

Check out what's new at style Niche! Besides an all new design, I've created some new (and tweaked some old) content to enhance your design search and made an easier way to get around the site. I'll be including links to old and new pages including Inspiration Rooms, Design and Fashion Boards, and easier access to my secondary blog, Rooms by Color, which seems to be pretty popular. You'll also find a new Monday section, "Things I ♥", which will include must have products and some favorite things. Faux Deer Decor ♥

I love faux deer heads. They really add that punch to a room and I'd love to get one for my study. The sky blue walls would look amazing next to white resin. However, decorating with this type of piece can be tricky. It takes the right kind of mix to keep it fresh and modern, otherwise you get something more along the lines of this: Ok, maybe that's extreme, but anyhoo - here's a little inspiration for those of you who love faux deer decor but don't know how to incorporate it into your own setting. I particularly like the deer silhouettes and the ornate circular frames placed around them. You can also take that extra step and place pretty wallpaper underneath. To me, there's nothing better than mixing modern design with natural elements. It's like getting the best of both worlds, and I love to see companies that specialize in that sort of thing. I stumbled upon Blue Nature, and I'm lovin the natural elements they use to create their furniture and accessories. Shabby Chic, Rachel Ashwell & An All New Blog!

I've been on a serious romantic/shabby chic kick here lately, and I think it has to do with getting (back) in touch with my feminine side. There's something about saving something from the trash and making it into art that appeals to me as well. The shabby chic look is all about pretty colors, weathered pieces, and textured art, and the good thing about this style is that you don't have to spend a fortune. My thrifty side is rejoicing..

As for my style, for the majority it's consisted of clean lined, modern pieces, but I've always liked the softer, more romantic styles of shabby chic as well (Thank you Rachel Aschwell) So in lieu of adding such a girly genre to Style Niche, I decided to make a blog all it's own. Take a look at Pretty Vintage Home for more gorgeous, girly, luxe inspiration. It's about all things pretty, romantic, shabby chic and vintage without going overly frou frou.

Back from a long hiatus. I've had a lot on my plate between school, working on the house, and taking on some other projects. Everything is coming along great, and I hope to have some new pictures of the house up real soon :)

So here's a post of one of my favorite subjects: Architecture. BAK Architects is one of my faves, and this new home, which just completed construction is definately on my list of favorites as well. The JD House, set in the forest of Mar Azul in the Argentinian province of Buenos Aires, is predominantly constructed of wood and concrete. Additionally, the home was built around mature trees which you can see on some of the outdoor room photos. Although I don't know how that would affect construction of the deck, it's definately an interesting touch. See more at BAK Architects.

Just a quick post. I've been working a lot in Illustrator Cs4, and decided to open a new Etsy shop. The reason being I've got two different styles going on, and didn't want to combine the two. My Home Renovation: The Study

So I haven't done a post in a while due to the fact that I just bought a new home. A three bedroom with a basement that has an additional room that could be a master. It's been rough moving in (and fun at the same time) as the house was a foreclosure and empty for over a year..which means I had to do a ton of cleaning and updates to the electric and plumbing. I finally got my electricity turned on so now I'm back to blogging :) I've got tons of projects I've got to tackle so I'll be posting before and after photos of my progress.

These next shots were taken of my study. Most of the items were purchased at IKEA and the curtains were given to me by my Mom which she bought at a thrift shop. The floral piece was also given to me by my Mom and is something I remember having in our home when I was a child. I'm going to spray paint it white except for the flower buds which will make it pop against the yellow wall. Also threw in one of my little man enjoying his new room..lol

I'm going to start doing posts of my favorite rooms I see online. It helps me to consolidate them all to use as a reference when it comes time to decorate. I'll tag them as "My Favorite Designs" if you'd like to use them for future reference as well.

Anyhow, browsing HGTV's rooms, I kept checking out Andreas Charalambous's designs. His style is modern, and he uses a lot of orange, which is my favorite color. The way he pairs it with dark, rich woods works really well, and his use of lighting always looks amazing.

The Nautilus, designed by Javier Senosiain, was modeled from a shell and resembles, to me anyways, an ultra modern hobbit home you'd see in Lord of the Rings. Not only is the home lovely to look at with it's curvacious design, bountiful interior plantlife and garden paths, but it's built to last. I'm posting rooms inspired by India today, a style I love next to mid century. These rooms include lots of florals, colorful textiles with a color palette consisting of mostly, purples, greens, reds and oranges, glowing candles, and of course, buddhas. Try mixing these elements in with ornate dark or black furnishings, or warm tones woods. Ornate chandeliers add in a bit of glam and victorian furniture upholstered with bright fabrics always makes a room pop.

No, these aren't paint cans lodged inside hollow tree trunks (that's what I thought they were at first) They're actually super cute nature inspired bowls from Loyal Loot. They're made of actual reclaimed logs that are hollowed out and handpainted with a high gloss finish. I wanted to post a few inspirational modern bathrooms I found on HGTV's Rate My Space. These were my favorite, and looking at them I realized they have a lot in common: First of all, the modern spalike atmosphere. Also the white bowl sinks and black lower cabinets, silver and stainless steel accessories and hardware, a color scheme in beige, tan, olive and sage along with orange florals, geometric tiling on the backsplashes, frameless glass on the mirrors and shower door, and to top it all off, some good dimmable recessed lighting.

While I'm on an Adler blogroll, here's some more of his eclectic designs, or what I like to call "glam kitsch". I think what I like most about the way he designs is his ability to to blend all the styles I love: vintage, modern, glam, a bit of baroque, and make it work beautifully.

And I found this really cute bedroom from The Vintage Laundress's photostream. I honestly thought Jonathan Adler did this himself but it was her work. She used 3-inch painter's tape on the walls to create this Adler inspired bedroom. And I think she did a beautiful job!)

Some good examples of how to successfully mix modern elements in with a shabby chic, victorian or traditional style interior.

To get this look, try using rustic furnishings, a blue, green and pastel color pallete, ornate chandeliers, sheer drapery, pretty florals and vintage wallpaper.

Keep it clean, simple and pretty with contrasting wood furnishings and a neutral color pallette.

Or add in pops of color like red and blue.

The Hemeroscopium House was formed around the idea of defying physical limits. Composed of heavy structural elements, it defines it's aesthetics with perfectly placed beams that create an aerial effect. The seemingly unstable structure took only 7 days to build, but a year to perfect. Complex calculations were involved in creating the perfect balance, aerial quality and overall appearance.
